The Edwardian Chair

I decided to draw a close up of a piece of furniture that would have been commonly found on board the Titanic. I wanted to keep the drawing up close to the wood to fully show the design carved into the frame. The rich wood and design of this chair frame illustrates the importance and class of those on board the titanic. Similarly to my drawing of the wall chandelier, i drew this piece using both tonal and colour pencils. this was intended to create the illusion of time passing by. the gray-scale of the tonal pencils shows how we see the titanic nowadays; in black and white. Yet, the colour pencils brings it to life and illustrates the deep colour of the rich wood.
