The Feathered Fan

For my next piece I decided to take an observational study of a feathered fan. I thought this would be an appropriate piece to draw as it directly symbolises the elegance of titanic interiors. Feathered fans were commonly used my the upper class passengers of the titanic. The use of a fan symbolises power, wealth and eligance, all of which are also closely associated with the opulent floors of the Titanic. I thought chalks would have been a good medium to use to create an illustration of this feathered fan as chalks create a very soft finish to a piece and I thought this would be appropriate to convey the soft and lightness of the black and peacock feathers.  I liked the smokey finish chalks had, however, I persoannally found them quite messy and I was unable to achieve a level of desired detailing.
